Kyle Templeman<\/a> ’14 (MAcc ’15) was recognized as the Young Philanthropist of the Year, and the Spirit of Philanthropy Award was given to Tim Pistell ’69 and his wife Lynn ’70<\/a> (math and elementary education). The awards ceremony<\/a> was held on February 13, 2025, at the Shriver Center John Dolibois Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Young Philanthropist of the Year recognizes an alum or other friend of the university who is under the age of 40 and has already made a noteworthy impact on Miami. Kyle established the Templeman Family Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students in need, to honor Miami\u2019s significant contributions to his and his family\u2019s successes. In a video shown during the awards program, Kyle said he wanted to honor “the legacy of being able to have multiple family members and generations,” which fostered a meaningful connection to Miami. Kyle’s parents were Miami mergers, and his sister and numerous cousins also attended Miami. Watch this video clip for more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Spirit of Philanthropy Award honors individuals who have been highly engaged in philanthropic activities at Miami over their lifetime, making a significant positive impact to the university. The Pistells have given to Miami every single year since they graduated. In the awards ceremony video, Tim mentioned the impact of Professor C. Rollin Niswonger<\/a> on his Miami experience and the value of a Miami education. Lynn also shared how much she appreciated the scholarship she received when she needed it most, and making a plan with Tim to pay it forward one day.
