{"id":1205,"date":"2023-07-05T14:43:36","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T18:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/?p=1205"},"modified":"2023-07-05T14:43:36","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T18:43:36","slug":"middle-schoolers-explore-accounting-at-camp-excell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/2023\/07\/middle-schoolers-explore-accounting-at-camp-excell\/","title":{"rendered":"Middle Schoolers Explore Accounting at Camp Excell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This week, over 100 kids from the Middletown and Cincinnati regions attended Camp Excell, a 4-day and 3-night camp introducing underrepresented youth in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> to 9<sup>th<\/sup> grades to various disciplines at Miami&#8217;s campus, including the arts and humanities, science, technology, engineering, education, and of course, accountancy. On June 27 and 28, accountancy professors held two one-hour sessions, attended by about 20 students each, to introduce what accounting is and why it\u2019s a great career choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Michele Frank developed fun and engaging activities for the students. In an investment game, campers role-played and made investing decisions<strong>\u2014<\/strong>and were awarded prizes when they made made good decisions. A trivia quiz about accounting provided the campers with information about the wide variety of career opportunities in accounting.
