Andrew Somich<\/a> \u201811 is the CEO of Somich & Associates, an accounting and business advisory firm serving individuals and small, family-owned businesses in Northeast Ohio. For the past three years, the firm has been recognized in the Redhawk50<\/a>, one of Miami University’s 50 fastest-growing RedHawk-led businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 2018, the firm was built on Somich\u2019s desire to help business owners and local entrepreneurs thrive and build long-lasting legacies. Growing up, he had witnessed his own family\u2019s three-generation business collapse. \u201cIf they had better CPA or legal advice, I think some of the downfalls could have been prevented,” Somich recalled. “That’s where I really had a deep desire to understand how to grow a successful business here, but also help our clients as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the first in his immediate family to attend college, Somich decided to pursue accountancy with this goal in mind. \u201cAccounting plays a critical role in helping businesses get stronger and grow, while making sure that they’re protected too,\u201d he stated. \u201cOur family was always centered around our business, and my family invested in my education so I could be well-educated and have the ability to do what I do today and continue providing value to others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After graduating from Miami University, Somich began his accounting career with a local firm but needed additional credit hours to qualify to sit for his CPA exam. He joined an accelerated MBA program at Cleveland State University that allowed him to take classes at night and on weekends over 11 months. This gave him a broader business perspective that would help him start his own business after gaining some experience at the accounting firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a younger business owner in his twenties, Andrew built his client base through active community involvement, modern software, attending local networking events, leveraging word-of-mouth referrals, and connecting with people who believed in his firm’s mission. \u201cWe grew alongside those small businesses that we served,\u201d he said. The firm sets no minimum client size, allowing it to work with small businesses and family enterprises at various stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somich\u2019s business leadership extends to community service. His firm supports United Way\u2019s campaigns, and he has personally served on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the West Creek Conservancy. “It’s more than just the work that we do. It’s about the impact that we can have in the community too. So we\u2019re always trying to give back as much as possible.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Somich & Associates continues to expand, Somich is focused on attracting accounting students and young professionals who share the firm\u2019s values. The firm actively recruits rising accounting students through an internship program. Rather than looking solely at technical experience, Somich focuses on character and attitude. “Really what we look at is the person’s values, their character, and their growth mindset,” he noted. “So if they have goals to get their CPA and want to absorb as much information as possible, I think that’s a good endeavor and good characteristics of an individual that we’re looking to hire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew actively stays connected to Miami University and supports initiatives that mentor young CPAs and accounting professionals entering the field, such as the Ohio Society of CPAs. While he remains the sole Miami graduate in his family so far, he looks toward the future with a smile: “I just had a son, so hopefully he can go to Miami in 18 years!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
