Then we took much-deserved rests with family and friends. But even with a break, we have some great stories to share\u2014I hope you enjoy them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a serious note, I\u2019m sure you\u2019re aware of the dire shortage of accountants in the United States. We\u2019re doing our best to turn that around one student at a time. We need your help.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each summer, we host <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/2023\/08\/make-it-miami-accounting-camp\/\">Make it Miami Accounting Camp<\/a> for about 25 high school students. We\u2019re revamping the program this year: an expanded (and fun) emphasis on why accounting is the best major ever, all the career paths you can have with an accounting degree, and more\u2014perhaps taking the campers on a plant tour of some kind and giving them more exposure to our fantastic campus and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways you can help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the \u201cOther fund\u201d line on our Department of Accountancy <a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/916\/lg21\/form.aspx?sid=916&amp;gid=1&amp;pgid=6010&amp;cid=11236&amp;dids=182.7&amp;bledit=1\">Giving Page<\/a> to make a special contribution to the Make It Miami Camp account (indicate \u201cMake It Miami Camp, index ACC719\u201d).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This year\u2019s contribution to the Make It Miami Camp could help support the program for several years to come:&nbsp;remember that contributions are currently matched dollar-for-dollar! As part of the <em>For Love. For Honor. For Those Who Will&nbsp;<\/em>capital campaign, the Farmer Family Foundation has increased its matching gift offer to match dollar-for-dollar all cash received between July 1, 2023, and June 20, 2025, up to $20 million. The match goes to the same account as your contributions, and also applies to organizations\u2019 matching gifts programs\u2014so $100 can quickly become $400.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email me (<a href=\"mailto:Anne.Farrell@MiamiOH.edu\">Anne.Farrell@MiamiOH.edu<\/a>) if you\u2019d like to spend some time with the campers on Thursday evening, June 27, or on Friday, June 28. launchpad to amazing careers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, contributions to the Department of Accountancy account you see on our Giving Page are always welcome (and also matched!), as are your offers to connect with students on campus or to share stories about your career and memories of your time at Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One more thing:&nbsp; Be sure to <a Section Midyear Meeting Best Paper Award for their manuscript titled, \u201cThe Effect of Expected Shareholder Litigation on Corporate ESG Reporting: Evidence from a Quasi-Natural Experiment.\u201d The manuscript is co-authored with Gillian Lei (University of North Carolina Greensboro) and Wayne Thomas (University of Oklahoma).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/william-brink-cpa-cfp-329a598\/\" target=\"_blank\">William Brink&#8217;s<\/a> manuscript titled &#8220;Academic Fraud and Remote Evaluation of Accounting Students: An Application of the Fraud Triangle&#8221; was accepted for publication in the <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/journal\/10551\/volumes-and-issues\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Business Ethics<\/a><\/em>. The study is co-authored with James Bierstaker (Villanova University), Sameera Khatoon (University of Saskatchewan), and Linda Thorne (York University).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/michele-frank-9120b089\/\">Michele Frank<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/anne-farrell-08921632\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anne Farrell<\/a> completed a micro-credential offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) focused on creating classroom and work environments where each student feels seen, heard, and valued. <a href=\"https:\/\/miamioh.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/acue-program-focuses-on-building-classroom-culture.html\">Fostering a Culture of Belonging<\/a> was designed to provide participants with actionable practices that could be implemented immediately. Ensuring that we understand and implement these types of practices is vital because having a sense of belonging is one of the most significant predictors of student retention and success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A research paper by Accountancy professors&nbsp;Anne Farrell&nbsp;and&nbsp;Michele Frank,&nbsp;titled \u201c<em>It\u2019s Complicated: How a Subordinate\u2019s Gender Influences Supervisors\u2019 Use of Past Performance Information When Appraising Potential<\/em>\u201d has been added to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.calcpa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CalCPA<\/a>\u2018s continuing education course offerings as a one-hour credit course. See our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.miamioh.edu\/doamu\/2024\/02\/faculty-research-article-offered-as-cpe-course-by-calcpa\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog article<\/a> for links to the article and the podcast discussing the significance of the research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Michele Frank has been nominated as the next Arthur Andersen Alumni Professor of Accountancy. Michele is the embodiment of a teacher-scholar, and impacts the lives of every student, colleague, and member of the accounting profession that she meets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"g99fb7cbe0752\">Student News<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accountancy majors <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/cg25sj\/s4reh8ee\/wrkjvu\">Josephine Clark<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/cg25sj\/s4reh8ee\/ckljvu\">Kaitlyn Cooley<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/cg25sj\/s4reh8ee\/scmjvu\">Natalie Mispagel<\/a> were part of the Miami University collegiate synchronized skating team that won the Vicki Korn National Championship Trophy at the 2024 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships held on February 21-24 in Las Vegas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Miami Ice Skating Club, with accountancy major <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/cg25sj\/s4reh8ee\/84mjvu\">Torie ElHaje<\/a> and accountancy minor <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/cg25sj\/s4reh8ee\/oxnjvu\">Xandra Johnston<\/a>, also secured the Midwestern Sectional Championship in the Open Collegiate division held in January in Wichita, Kansas. Torie has served as president of the team for the past two years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both Natalie and Torie are also pursuing a Master of Accountancy degree in the combined 3+1 program. Congratulations to our students, who excel both in sports and academics!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alexa-leach-818ab7249\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alexa Leach<\/a> has been chosen to receive a scholarship from the Cincinnati Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) and will be recognized at the chapter&#8217;s April dinner. Awards are given to top students in accounting who demonstrate hard work, enthusiasm&nbsp;for, and expertise in accounting; demonstrate great social skills and attitude; and  embody the highest ethical and moral standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A paper by EY Student Scholar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/bridgetschaber\/\" data-type=\"URL\"
