We are pleased to share that Bridget Schaber<\/a> (Class of 2025) and Professor Tim Eaton<\/a> have published a paper titled \u201cESG: What Accountants Need to Know\u201d in the 792nd<\/sup> issue of the New Accountant<\/em> magazine<\/a>. This paper, written as part of a summer research grant project supported by EY, explores the implications of the rising ESG movement (ESG stands for environmental<\/em>, social<\/em>, and governance<\/em>) in business and its reporting implications for accountants. The publication is geared towards providing important information for young students and professionals entering the field of accounting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Schaber is in the combined BS\/MAcc program, which was a major factor in her decision to come to Miami. Her interest in accountancy was sparked in high school by a teacher, who introduced her to the benefits and career opportunities offered in this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the opportunity to apply to become the EY Scholar came up, Schaber already had been thinking about focusing on ESG reporting. \u201cI was first introduced to ESG reporting during my sophomore year at Miami, when I participated in the 2022 Deloitte Audit Innovation Case Competition. During this case competition, I worked with a team of four to create an innovative solution that utilized technology to help companies navigate regulated ESG disclosures. Sustainability has always been a passion of mine, and it was really interesting to learn about how it is being incorporated into the future of financial reporting,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to being an EY Scholar, Schaber is active in campus organizations, including Delta Sigma Pi, Women in Accounting, and the Accounting Association. She served on several committees at Delta Sigma Pi. \u201cThrough this organization, I have met career mentors, alumni, and lifelong friends. Delta Sigma Pi’s strong brotherhood and professionalism allowed me to build unbreakable personal and professional relationships that have helped me in every area of my life,\u201d she said. She has also recently joined the Miami Pickleball League. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, Schaber is looking forward to spending Spring semester in Luxembourg, followed by a summer Audit Internship at Deloitte’s Chicago office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Eaton expressed his gratitude for the EY Foundation in sponsoring this program, which has now been in existence for over a decade and has allowed numerous Miami students to partner with Miami faculty to truly put the teacher-scholar model into practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
