Introducing Sara Potter

Sara Potter ’99 is our Deloitte Introductory Accountancy Course Coordinator. Sara assists faculty in managing the Canvas course sites and communication with students in the ACC 221 and 222 classes. ACC 221, Introduction to Financial Accounting, enrolls more than 500 Farmer School of Business Students, while ACC 222, Introduction to Managerial Accounting, is attended by about 470 students. Potter also manages and mentors the graduate students who assist the lead instructors.

Potter graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in business, majoring in finance. She worked in corporate finance for 4 years and had been a tax accountant for the past 11 years.

The faculty and staff in the accounting department have been so welcoming, helpful, and positive. I also enjoy working with the students and want each student to feel supported. Returning to a place where I spent my formative years feels like coming full circle, and I love the opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape me. Additionally,  I enjoy being a part of Miami University’s strong sense of tradition, beautiful campus, and vibrant academic environment.

Potter grew up in Oxford and has deep ties with Miami—her dad David Leonard retired from Miami as a finance professor, and her mom Lyn was a career advisor. She and her husband Daniel ’96 (BA Psychology) are Miami Mergers, and both her kids and her niece are students at the Farmer School of Business.
