T.J. LaMendola was the keynote speaker during the MAcc graduation ceremony held May 15, 2022, at the Wilks Theater in Armstrong Student Center. As a Miami undergraduate student, LaMendola pursued a double major in Accountancy and Management Information Systems. He joined Deloitte upon graduation, earning his CPA shortly thereafter. A few years later, he was presented an opportunity to join the Columbus Blue Jackets as director of finance, a position that evolved into chief financial officer. LaMendola has been with the NHL team for over 23 years.

LaMendola contributes his time to several charitable and community organizations. He is treasurer of the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, an organization dedicated to the health and wellness of children in Central Ohio, funding efforts in the areas of pediatric cancer and fitness. He has remained in touch with his alma mater, serving as a valuable resource in accountancy courses. In particular, he is regularly featured in a CFO interview project completed by students in ACC 635, Financial Leadership in Organizations.
