Guest post by Madi Anderson, President and Founder of Women in Accounting
On Tuesday (April 9), Women in Accounting hosted Amber Coleman-Mortley, the Senior Director of Community and Culture at The Female Quotient, to speak to students at Miami University. The Female Quotient is an emerging media company specializing in viral content, virtual programming, and in-person Equality Lounge® events at global industry conferences. Throughout her presentation, Amber helped answer important questions such as:
- How do you advocate for yourself in a professional setting?
- What does an equitable workforce look like, and how can we make sure we are maintaining the best environment for everyone involved?
- How can we show up for one another in the workplace?
Amber brought an inspiring energy to campus that helped students feel prepared to enter the workforce. The room was filled with students with the potential to sit on an executive board one day, and having conversations around topics like this now ensures that we are building a future workforce that is best for everyone.
At the end of the presentation, Amber took the time to answer student questions and to dive deeper into topics such as the how the way some hiring processes work can unintentionally lead to discrimination, and measuring the diversity and equity of a workplace. Women in Accounting is extremely grateful to Amber for sharing her time and expertise with us, and we hope to welcome her again soon!

Women in Accounting is a community of female professionals who are prepared to excel and support one another in the workforce. Our members will:
- have the professional resources to advance in their careers and reach every opportunity they desire.
- feel prepared to enter a space where they may face bias and gender-based discrimination, and have the tools to combat this and excel anyway.
- feel supported in their ventures and more confident in their potential after their time in the organization.
The long-term view of this organization is that there would be communities of women in the workforce that put effort into supporting and uplifting one another.
