Why Accounting at Miami? Student Leaders, Alumni Provide Answers at Career Day Event

Miami Accounting Career Day, an event organized by The Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) in collaboration with the Department of Accountancy, was held March 5 at Miami University’s Voice of America Learning Center. The event featured approximately 70 high school students, mainly from Bishop Fenwick, Lebanon, La Salle, and Badin High Schools. During the event, speakers and panelists talked about “Why Accounting” and “Why Miami.”

Department Chair Anne Farrell and EY Professional Development Advisor Amanda Pyzoha opened the event with welcoming remarks. Ali Strohm of EY then introduced the varied opportunities in the accounting field.

An interactive group activity was led by Lori Brown and Hannah Thomas of OSCPA and facilitated by MAcc students William Gronau, Ava Nagy, and Ryan Pasko, who also served on the student panel at the event. After a break for lunch, students heard from accounting firm representatives, including Miami alumni Jim Creeden ’97, David Klopfer ’02, BriAuna Keys ’20, Salina Khan ’24, and Nathan Schuster ’24, and got the chance to ask questions about what it’s like to work in the field of accounting.
