The American Accounting Association (AAA) has selected Professor Anne Farrell to receive the 2025 Outstanding Service Award, which will be presented at the 2025 Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago in August.

The American Accounting Association, founded in 1916, is the largest academic community of accountants, advancing the field through research, collaboration, and innovation. In an announcement, AAA Communications Manager Nancy Maciag stated, “The Outstanding Service Award recognizes outstanding services to the American Accounting Association other than educational and research contributions. The prestigious award is intended only for rare events or milestones achieved.”

Professor Farrell has served in numerous AAA roles, including vice president-finance and in leadership roles in the Management Accounting and the Accounting Behavior and Organizations (ABO) Sections of the AAA.

Her research focuses on how management accounting systems affect employee decision-making. She serves as an editor at Contemporary Accounting Research and Management Accounting Research and was an editor at Behavioral Research in Accounting. Her past awards include the AAA’s MAS Notable Contribution to Management Accounting Literature and Greatest Potential Impact on Management Accounting Practice Awards; the IMA/MAS Jim Bulloch Award for Innovations in Management Accounting Education; and the AAA’s 2019 Outstanding Service Award.

Expressing her appreciation, Professor Farrell stated, “Membership and involvement in the AAA has played a significant role in my professional and personal development—I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to give back!”

Congratulations to our beloved department chair on this very well-deserved recognition!
