The Accountancy Advisory Group (AAG) held its Spring Meeting on April 10 and 11, welcoming new members Daniel Perschke, Senior Vice President & Controller at The E.W. Scripps Company, and Laura Hay, President and CEO of The Ohio Society of CPAs.

The group discussed the current developments in higher education, including the recent letter from the U.S. Department of Education and the enactment of Ohio Senate Bill 1, as well as Miami University’s response. On the local side, the AAG were given updates on the recent Miami University–Faculty Alliance of Miami agreement and the Board of Trustee’s approval of developing the Cook Field site as an event and arena district. The Accountancy Department also shared the good news of our increasing enrollments.

Next, student representatives were invited to join the group to brainstorm on the following items:

  • Our mission: “bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and other professionals to cultivate Beyond Ready Leaders and drive accountancy knowledge and practice to create a lasting global impact.”
  • Curriculum improvements in accountancy course offerings; MAcc program changes given the unfolding new pathways to a CPA credential.
  • Impacts of the new pathways to CPA on the job market and campus recruiting, especially in light of new students switching to, or adding a second, accounting major later in their college journey.

Participating students included William Gronau, Emma Hakala, Katie Jones, Alexa Leach, Kristi Loose, Nate Madding, Chris Petropoulos, Nate Spence, and Tyler Williams.

The Department will be inviting more early-career alumni and student members to join the AAG; we welcome nominations (email Anne Farrell). The next meeting is set for November 14–15, 2025.
