In her representation, de Kooning utilized broad<br>\ngestural sections of color to represent the figure, calling back<br>\nto her Abstract Expressionist roots. De Kooning was most<br>\ninterested in the how light added movement to the frozen<br>\naction of the statue, and this energy is the true subject of this<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>piece. For women artists, the world of abstraction was off-<br>\nlimits, as it was seen as representing a \u201cmasculine\u201d energy.
