The transcendental, spiritual, and mysterious<br>\nqualities of this composition lead viewers to question what is<br>\nhappening in the painting. Klement was born to Jewish parents<br>\nin Danzig, a German city-state, and her work is influenced by<br>\ntraumas from the Holocaust. Working within the feminist art<br>\nscene of 1970s Chicago, Klement received praise for taking the<br>\ntradition of Abstract Expressionism and expanding out to<br>\ninclude themes from her life, creating her own unique style.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Vera Klement (American, b.
