Captioning Videos

All videos need to include captions.

The easiest way to do this is to upload your video to YouTube. YouTube will automatically generate captions, doing the bulk of the work, which you will then need to edit and correct. Do not rely on the default automatic captions; they will inevitably have errors and inaccuracies.

Make sure your captions use proper case, punctuation, and spelling. If more than one person is talking within the video, indicate who is speaking at the time.

Add a Video to WordPress Content

Occasionally you will have a need to embed a video from YouTube or another source into a WordPress page or post. To that, add a new content block to your page, choose the YouTube or Video content type, choose the option to insert a URL, and paste the YouTube link to your video in that field. Save your changes.

Title Attributes

All videos and iframes require a title attribute and a short but descriptive title to help users understand the subject of the video. The code should look something like this:

<video title=”Professor Moriarty Explains Criminology 101”>

<iframe title=”Submit Your Lunch Order Form”>

<iframe title=”YouTube Video Player: Ribbon Cutting of the New Clinical Health Sciences Building”>

If you use a video block in WordPress, the title automatically comes from your video’s title within YouTube.
