Miami University Art Museum<\/a> and the\u00a0Art Museum Student Organization<\/a>\u00a0(AMSO) have teamed up in co-sponsoring a special screening of\u00a0Pressing On: The Letterpress\u00a0<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"Film<\/i><\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday, November 28. The night will start at 6 p.m. with refreshments provided by AMSO followed by a screening of the movie at MUAM.\u00a0The film will run for 90 minutes and conclude around 8:20 p.m.<\/p>\n

Pressing On\u00a0<\/i>is about how the 500-year-old practice of letterpress\u00a0has stayed alive in such a digital age. Throughout the film, you will meet various collectors, self-proclaimed hoarders, and millennial new-comers share stories about how letterpress\u00a0has become such a vital part of their lives. In creating this film, the filmakers\u00a0aimed for it to be \u201cvisual poetry\u201d illustrating the dichotomy of such a classic process and how it has become so popular within a culture obsessed with customization, originality, and DIY.<\/div>\n

Erin Beckloff, co-producer of Pressing On<\/em> and alumni and assistant professor at Miami University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Though the film is cool enough on its own, Miami University has a special connection to it \u2014 its co-producer Erin Beckloff<\/a> is a current assistant professor of graphic design right here at our Oxford campus. Since graduating from Miami with a BFA, Erin has gone on to earn her MFA in Graphic Design at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Erin has continued to study letterpress through practical application and the shared knowledge of master printers, including those in the film: Hatch Show Print.<\/a> Since teaching at Miami, Erin has revitalized the Curmudgeon Press<\/a> type shop and developed various letterpress courses open to the students at Miami.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0The screening is free and open to all at MUAM (free on-site parking): Tuesday, November 28 \u2014 refreshments at 6 p.m., screening at 7 p.m.<\/div>\n
