My name is Diana Kate Karsanow and I am an Arts Management Intern this semester at the Miami University Art Museum (MUAM). I am a studying Art & Architecture History and Arts Management with the hopes to work at an arts organization post-graduation. In addition to my MUAM internship, I am the Lab Coordinator for the Arts Innovation Lab, the Editor-in-Chief of Miami University’s Art Department magazine “Effusions”, and a member of Miami Activities and Programming (MAP).
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Art Museum, I am working on numerous projects. I am continuing the work of Leah Ball and Caroline Bastian for MUAM’s pop-up publicity event Donuts & Dali. I will be expanding the pop-up locations to include first-year residence halls as well as academic buildings where classes related to our current exhibitions are held. I am also representing MUAM for an upcoming event that is in the works which will celebrate the arts on Miami University’s campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for exhibitions, I am managing the publicity for the Student Response Exhibition (SRE) Circling ‘Round<\/a> <\/em>and the permanent exhibition Art History at a Glance<\/a><\/em>! Circling ‘Round<\/em> features 32 works by 27 Miami students all responding to the theme of a circle. Circling ‘Round<\/em> also includes one multi-media artwork completed by members of Opening Minds Through Art and The Memory Cafe. Three of the artworks will be awarded a cash prize based on votes cast by visitors to the exhibition, so be sure to stop by! The winners will be announced at our Exhibition Celebration on Apr.14! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an art history major I have always been especially interested in the Art History at a Glance<\/em> collection and love to see the different artworks chosen to be displayed each year. A write-up highlighting my favorite artwork from Art History at a Glance<\/em> will be posted later this semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also had the pleasure and honor to work on the current exhibition Desire, Conflict & Exchange<\/a><\/em> as a member of the Art History Capstone class last semester. This exhibition addresses the opening-up of East Asia by western powers for trade in the nineteenth century. To celebrate the exhibition, the art museum will be hosting an East Asian Symposium, Gallery Talk, and Reception on Mar.16. Feel free to stop by and I will happily give you more information on the process of the Art History Capstone project and the particular piece I researched for the exhibition! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
