Twelve students worked on this piece: Anna Porter, Johanna Alexander, Sonia Bhati, Katherine Kennedy, Hannah McCarren, Megan Igel, Maria Pappas, Dayna Dionyssiou, Paige Pennington, Susanna Smith, Ziyao Xu, and Rachel Instone!

This group has students in a variety of majors, from Biology, to Marketing, and several in Gerontology. This group of students is extremely involved on campus, with their membership in OMA and Threshold Choir, as well as members involved in Chamber Singers, 4Paws, Government Relations Network, Hillel, American Sign Language & Deaf Culture Club, Cru, Women in Business, and Best Buddies.

They enjoy spending their time doing things like reading, working out, dancing, and spending time with friends. Many of them enjoy abstract art, as well as sculpture and photography. Their dream jobs include working as a doctor, a teacher, a music composer, and a veterinarian, to name a few.

The Student Response Exhibition asked students to think beyond physical limits with the concept of a box. From our work with those who live with dementia (OMA) and those in Hospice (TCMU), we have peeked at the other side. We have held the hands of those on the edge of life. In this artwork, we try to capture what we saw and experienced with them and to make our creative process visible in the video. Essentially, we stepped outside of our individual boxes and created a collaborative artwork inspired by lyrics and songs about leaving the box of life. We ended up with a painting of 192 tiny boxes, each one unique but woven together to show what we have the privilege of witnessing through our work with OMA and TCMU: fear and pain, kindness and peace, and above all, love.”

Come see the exhibition and vote for your top three favorites!
