Landon Woodard has been selected as a featured artist in the Miami University Art Museum 2020 Student response Exhibition! Woodard is a junior at Miami from Bellevue, Ohio majoring in marketing with a minor in geography. At Miami, Woodard is involved in many organizations including Miami Business Consulting, ISACA, Miami Striders, and Alpha Sigma Phi. He wanted to attend Miami University since he was in 8th grade and was excited about the opportunity to study at the Farmer School of Business.
Woodard’s piece, The Way of the Land, was “inspired by John Stilgoe, a thought-provoking mind who encourages many to explore familiar places and discover what is often overlooked,” said Woodard, “I think it is really important to get a better perspective on the world around us by absorbing the details and understanding why things are the way they are.”
In his free time, Woodard enjoys running, making music, and adventuring with friends. Music is his favorite form of artistic expression since he taught himself to play the drums when he was 14 years old. In the future, his dream job would involve “helping others in any way that I can while being able to explore the world and exposing myself to many different industries, cultures and people,” said Woodard.
This year’s SRE topic was Circling ‘Round, where students thought about what a circle meant to them and how they might interpret it in art. Nearly 100 submissions were received. 32 works by 58 students were chosen to be featured in the spring 2020 exhibition. As a juried exhibition, all works were selected through a formal process by a committee.
The exhibition will open Tuesday, January 28 and will remain through alumni weekend, closing on June 13. Voting will be open until April 11, 2020. There will be an artist celebration and award ceremony held on April 14, 2020, from 6 to 8 PM where three works will be awarded prizes totaling over $800. The awards are sponsored by the Art Museum Membership Association.
