Katie Caudill has been selected as a featured artist in the Miami University Art Museum 2020 Student Response Exhibition! Caudill is a sophomore geology major at Miami from Middletown, Ohio. She chose to come to Miami because it was closer to home compared to other schools she was looking at. “Now that I’ve been at Miami for a couple years, I see that I’ve made the right decision,” said Caudill. At Miami, she is involved in the geology club.
Caudill was inspired by her love for drawing mandalas and intricate designs when creating her piece titled, Intricate. In her free time, Caudill loves to draw and make new art. She currently has 17 sketchbooks filled with her artwork over the years, with the oldest being from 6 years ago! As a geology major, she also loves to study any interesting rock or material that she can find. For her dream job, she would love to go to Hawaii to study volcanoes. Because of her love for all things natural and organic, it is fitting that her favorite field of art is realistic drawings of nature, specifically flowers, that she also loves to draw in her sketchbooks.
This year’s SRE topic was Circling ‘Round, where students thought about what a circle meant to them and how they might interpret it in art. Nearly 100 submissions were received. 34 works by 58 students were chosen to be featured in the spring 2020 exhibition. As a juried exhibition, all works were selected through a formal process by a committee.
The exhibition will open Tuesday, January 28 and will remain through alumni weekend, closing on June 13. Voting will be open until April 11, 2020. There will be an artist celebration and award ceremony held on April 14, 2020, from 8 to 6 PM where three works will be awarded prizes totaling over $800. The awards are sponsored by the Art Museum Membership Association.
