Meet Rebecca Hughes, from Seville, in rural Northeast Ohio!
Rebecca is a senior at Miami studying Architecture and Art & Architecture History. This semester, she is a Curatorial Intern at the Miami University Art Museum. Rebecca is working with the museum’s Curator of Exhibitions, Jason Shaiman, on an exhibition for Fall 2018. The upcoming exhibition, Comfort Zones: Crossroads Between Urban and Rural, will feature the art of Mary Phelan and Eldridge Bagley. Phelan paints urban Chicago and Bagley paints rural south-central Virginia. Rebecca and Jason are hoping that the landscapes will appeal to a wide variety of students at Miami, those who come from both urban and rural areas. Rebecca was initially drawn to the artists’ work because “they draw attention to the vernacular architecture of their hometowns. Their paintings take something that may seem so ordinary to us, and make it extraordinary.”
Rebecca’s dream job is to be an architect. Her favorite arts & culture venue is the Cleveland Museum of Art. On campus, Rebecca is involved in intramural broomball and basketball and she is the Vice President of Alpha Rho Chi architecture and art professional fraternity. Her favorite hobbies include watching Stranger Things, cooking, and dancing. Rebecca’s favorite food is soft pretzels. In Oxford, she likes to eat at Kona Bistro.
