As per previous discussions, this stage in the project explored reshaping the forms to soften edges and respond to the site. This resulted in a flowing form with a large portion of the arena program underground, with the public entry rising out to the southeast. While the arena is largely enclosed and underground, the workshop program to the west experiments with varying types of openings to allow for lighting and view creation.
Immediate next steps involve material selection/studies, confirming historical reconstruction aspects of the existing building, examine more contemporary stage layouts, and reviewing suggested research. Suggestions include Phoenix Library for structural elements at glazing, channeled glass at arena entry (see Steven Holl – Pratt Institute), House of Vans, London.
